what is WaveSurgeon?

WaveSurgeon is the ultimate editing package for loop and sample editing. Besides the usual editing functions, WaveSurgeon will automatically find individual segments and loop points within a sample. This makes it particularly suitable for drum samples, but may be used to break apart anything (including vocals). WaveSurgeon:
Samplers and plugins are also catered for by the Advanced version. WaveSurgeon supports a wide range of machines; besides generic SDS and SMIDI support, WaveSurgeon can map samples to Yamaha A3000/4000/5000 and EX, Akai S2000, S3000XL, and S3200XL and S5000/6000, and E-Mu ESI / E64 / E4 samplers. The unique batch transfer features lets you transfer large numbers of samples to your sampler at a time, and then maps them across the keyboard. DirectX plugins are also supported by this version.

Additionally, WaveSurgeon features a full range of editing tools. These include the ability to add, move, disable / enable and lock / unlock points, and silence/ reverse segments. There is also full Windows clipboard support, allowing the user to copy and paste segments around within the sample.

A sequencer (e.g. Cubase / Cubasis, Logic, Cakewalk) is also highly recommended (and required for pitch and tempo changing). A soundcard with onboard sample memory (e.g. the SBLive range), or a sampler, is also necessary if sample uploading is required. A midi interface is required for SDS transfer, whilst a SCSI card is necessary for SMIDI transfer.
